Kim Wilson Sunday Herald Sun 27 April 2008 IT has taken four-time gold Logie winner and stage star Lisa McCune several years to appreciate and enjoy the accolades that have come with her high-profile career.
"At the time, they (the Logie awards) were overwhelming and I worried there would be a backlash, but looking back I'm incredibly proud of them," she says.
So much so, she has only recently put them on display at home.
"We've only recently taken them out of a suitcase," McCune says.
Next Sunday, the Sea Patrol star may have a fifth one to add to the collection when the 50th annual TV Week Logie Awards ceremony is held in Melbourne.
McCune, who is starring in Guys and Dolls, says while she was surprised she was nominated she is as thrilled as she was for her first in 1997.
"It (the nomination) didn't even enter my thoughts," she says.
"It's the icing on the cake; validation from the audience - and ultimately they're the ones you want to like it."
McCune won her four gold Logies in succession - the last being in 2000.
She resents suggestions this year's nomination signals a "comeback".
"I thought it weird. My benchmark is supposed to be a gold Logie?" she says. "The gold Logie is a celebration from the audience and very important, but I love it when they watch things not up for a gold Logie.
"After that last Logie win I had a baby. It's not something you think about year after year."
McCune applauds the new Logie voting system that allows viewers to text votes.
"It changes the nature of who's nominated," she says. "I'm thrilled to be in the company of these people (the other gold Logie nominees). Everyone is at the top of their game."
This year's Logies will be McCune's 13th and she can only recall one serious fashion faux pas.
"At my first Logies I wore a pink dress above the knee. This wasn't the best, but I've had some really lovely dresses," she says.
